Basgo saysFan or PTC for quick heat. Bedrooms: oil-filled.

Room-heater demand peaks from about 20 December to mid-January, and festive-sale prices are on now. Here are the heaters worth buying under ₹1,000 and ₹2,000, and when an oil-filled radiator earns its higher price.

How we picked: we haven’t tested these heaters ourselves. We compared listings on Amazon India on 27 October 2026, during the festive sale, by type, wattage, safety features and ratings. Prices change daily. Our heater types guide explains the differences, and why every electric heater costs the same per watt to run.

Is an oil-filled radiator worth five times the price?

Not for the electricity. A 2,000 W radiator costs the same ₹16 an hour as a 2,000 W fan heater. You pay for how it heats:

  • Silent, with no fan and no glowing element, so it suits sleeping rooms and babies.
  • Even heat across the room, which keeps radiating after the thermostat clicks off.
  • No blown dust, and less of a fire risk than glowing rods.

The downsides: it’s slow (give it half an hour), heavy, its surface gets hot, and it costs ₹6,000–14,500.

Worth it if you’ll heat a bedroom for hours most nights through December and January, especially for a baby or an older parent. Not worth it for half an hour of warmth before bed. A fan heater does that for a tenth of the price.

Before you buy

  1. ISI mark: compulsory for room heaters.
  2. Tip-over switch and overheat cut-off, especially with children or pets.
  3. A thermostat, which saves the most money.
  4. The right socket: a 2,000 W heater needs a 15 A socket; plug it straight into the wall, never an extension board.

Honest verdict

Under ₹2,000, buy for the room: a 2,000 W fan heater for quick living-room heat, an 800 W quartz with a tip-over switch for a desk, a convector for gentler heat. An oil-filled radiator is worth it for bedrooms you’ll heat every night, not for the electricity bill. For heating every night, a hot & cold AC is cheaper to run than any heater.

Questions people ask

Which is the best room heater under ₹2,000?

For quick heat in a living room, a 2,000 W fan heater such as the Solimo (₹1,119, Amazon's most popular, rated 3.9 from 31,700 reviews) or the Orient Areva (₹1,649). For a small room or a desk, an 800 W quartz heater with a tip-over switch, like the Usha 4302 (₹1,199). For quieter, gentler heat, the Crompton Comfort Neo convector (₹1,770).

Is there a good room heater under ₹1,000?

A couple: the Longway Magma PTC fan heater (₹899, 1,000/2,000 W, rated 3.7 from about 1,200 reviews) and the Longway Blaze 800 W quartz heater (₹999). Most other listings under ₹1,000 have very few ratings. Whatever you buy, check for the ISI mark.

Are oil-filled radiators worth the money?

If you'll heat a bedroom for hours most nights through December and January, yes: they're silent, have no glowing element or fan, and keep radiating after they switch off. But they don't use less electricity per watt, they cost ₹6,000–14,500 and they're slow to warm up. For short bursts of heat, a fan heater does the job for a tenth of the price.

Which oil-filled radiator should I buy?

The Orient 11-fin 2,900 W (₹9,599, Amazon's Choice) and the Morphy Richards OFR 09F (₹9,149, rated 4.1) are the value picks. The Philips 11-fin (₹13,495, rated 4.5) adds a tilt shut-off. A 2,900 W model needs a 15 A socket and sound wiring.

Will room heater prices go up in December?

Demand peaks from about 20 December to mid-January, and late-October prices are festive-sale prices. If you know you'll need one, buy early, and you can check it works before the cold arrives.
